Long before Lil Nas X made a public splash, a burgeoning LGBT rap scene was emerging out of Oakland, CA in the early 2000s. It spawned a yearly event known as PeaceOUT, featuring emcees, DJs, dancers, representing a wide array of styles. It was documented in 2006's "Pick Up The Mic," which managed to be there during the scene's best moments.
