The Mission District #1

Like the enigmatic Cholo zine, this 1980 publication comes from the same origins of "Ed Silvera" (Gary Arlington) and "Rogelio Del Fuego" (Roger Brand) of the San Francisco Comic Book Company. The only difference is that while it contains the same mix of content, it has more traditional cartooning from Brand with a loose narrative. Otherwise, it features the familiar naive art, gang signifiers, and local landmarks. The cover is a plain white cardboard sleeve, which feels like an unfinished project. In fact, Brand would pass away not long after its publication. An ad for issue #2 is on a back page, which was never realized.
